Child: Daphne Ajok

Currently in 3rd grade, Daphine, born Dec 13, 2000, is the only girl in a family of four children. Her mother lives in another city, struggling to earn a living supporting her children by cleaning and cooking for another family who pay the school fees for her oldest son. Daphine lives with an uncle who threatens to send her away as he’s struggling to survive with his own children and wife.

Note: Daphine’s school is not very good. You may choose to sponsor her at another school with increased fees.

I like math. It’s taught in an easy way. English is also my best subject. Madam Agnes is my favorite teacher. She was my P2 teacher. She’d teach and ease my learning. She’s discipline me and help if I didn’t pass. Because of her, I am better person today. I want to be a teacher like Madam Agnes.

I love my family and I want the best for them.

Three times I have been sent home because I was not able to pay school fees. Last term I was sent home twice but my uncle made bricks this term so he was able to pay and I was very happy.

Fees: 9,000 Ugandan shillings per term.
Three terms = 27,000 Ush. (~US $13.50/yr).
Must also purchase school uniform for 15,000 USh (~US $7.50), a broom, toilet paper and exercise books
Total school sponsorship: US $~30/yr.
