Child: Emmy Nyeko

Emmy’s father was killed by “Lord’s Resistance Army” rebels. Born November 7, 1999, he is in Primary 3 (3rd grade) and has four siblings. ALthough not technically required, by the tearing and flimsy fabric of his used school uniform, Emmy needs a new one.
An interview with Emmy
I like learning. It teaches you to become a good person. You could become a doctor, a lawyer, or teacher if you listen to teachers in class. I want to be a teacher so that those kids will grow to be disciplined, that they listen to their parent’s advice. My mother teaches me to not fight and to not steal.
My mother is not able to work hard because she is sick. She aches in the head. [Interviewer's note: mother might be suffering from HIV/AIDS-related complications unknown to Emmy.] She is a peasant farmer who sells in the market.
When my friend tells funny stories I laugh. ALso, I like to plaly football [soccer]. I like mathematics in school. I like adding, subtracting, dividing, multiplying. I like working with numbers.
